Attack on Titan ( Shingeki no Kyojin ) is a manga written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, first published in 2009. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity lives behind immense walls to protect itself from the Titans, gigantic, humanoid creatures that devour humans.

The story follows Eren Yeager, a young boy who witnesses the destruction of his village and the death of his mother in the attack of a colossal Titan. Devastated by this tragedy, Eren vows to destroy all Titans and joins the Survey Corps, a military unit dedicated to fighting these monsters. Alongside his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, Eren discovers that the Titans are only part of a much deeper mystery concerning the origin of these creatures and the true reasons for humanity's confinement.
